"A Special Note From The Occupy Movement"

A nation's culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people ~ Mahatma Gandhi

172685-occupy-wall-street-moves-uptownAs a once proud Canadian, I have to admit that I’m somewhat disappointed in my fellow Canadian’s who seem content with the life they now live. (You Fuckin’ Pussies…) Stand up and be counted! As the world we currently live in seems to be rapidly deteriorating around us, very few seem to take note that as each day passes our freedoms erode to new heights. Corporations, Big Banks and an undemocratic and corrupt Government have conspired against us to their own agenda, while the working class suffer in their wake. The ruling class, using their puppets in the form of local television and media have been able to control the thoughts and minds of their minion’s, of which seem to sacredly worship all they see and hear.

Perhaps it’s the comfort they derive from their own materialistic attributes that they fail to see the world beyond their precious surroundings. They idly lay on their sofa’s gazing at some silly repeat of their favourite reality TV show, perhaps even pondering their next extravagant purchase of some useless item which has no purpose other than to upgrade their status, seemingly unaware of the atrocities committed almost daily throughout the entire world.  As they lavish in their contentment, millions of children worldwide cry out from poverty and hunger. Thousands more people die almost daily in unjust wars while millions more from all walks of life are oppressed. The environment is decaying as oil companies and big industries spew their toxic waste. Yet sadly, they see nothing!

As for those who do see and wish to make a difference, they only become further oppressed. Not only by their Government’s, but from their very own kind. (Their Family, Their Friends, Their Neighbours) The one’s who are content as long as it’s not their child starving or their family who is being killed in some unjust war. As long as they don’t have to drink tainted waters or breathe the air polluted by big industries. Yeah… as long as they are safe with all their amenities they have nothing much to say. For the time being they will side with their cohorts’ as long as it is favourable. Denouncing all those who strive for change!

317518_274730299215291_204904669531188_911586_69951692_nNow, for a moment imagine the shoe on the other foot? What if it was YOU who was being oppressed? What if it was your family who were being detained, or killed by some out of control Government? Sadly, it is! (Too bad you you’ve yet to notice.) WAKE (the fuck) UP!!! Get your heads out of the “Good Book” and have a look at the real world. It’s not as pretty as you may think!! Those of us trying to make a difference are not hoping to get a big pay check at the end of the day. We want what everyone should strive for. We demand Equality… A Responsible Government! A government who’s concerns are for the people who have put their trust in them to make a difference and not the corporations who abuse the system. If you wish to be silent… be sure to keep your trap shut when all of your freedoms have been quelled! Don’t jump the fence when your world turns sour… you may not like what you find on the other side!

UBB… What’s Wrong With This Picture?

Posted by Derek J.Sowa | Posted in , , , | Posted on 8:25 PM

As the debate over UBB (Usage Based Billing) rages on, it would seem that  the ‘Big Telecom’  have all the right answers, or so they would like us to believe. Shame on them! I for one am growing tired of hearing how they need to pay for the infrastructure already in place when we all, as consumers, are being over billed for the services we now receive. Just why do they now want to own the internet? Bottom line… it’s just another money grab. I agree that they may very well own the backbone, (the wires, fibre optics, ect)but the internet is a vast infrastructure with many nodes,  avenues and stations all of which the "’Big Telecom’ have contributed nothing to, so why is it now they feel they should profit off of others? Millions of corporations, businesses and consumers the world round have all contributed to the infrastructure of the internet so should we not reap some rewards also?
A recent article on The Globe and Mail does well to sum it up nicely.
Bell’s vision is an Internet that’s more like your cellphone. Treat every new Internet application as a “feature” that incurs a new monthly fee. Charge a “termination fee” if you get sick of how things are going. Above all, make everything consumers do cost more!
Sound familiar? We currently see this type of billing with our Cable TV, our home phone lines and our mobile phones.  Now, lets try to imagine an internet where if the ‘Big Telecom’ could have free rein to charge us at will as they now do with the other services they provide. It would not be very long before every web page, web app, video or song we clicked on or listened to, would have the all to familiar buttons attached.
Profit… is the real intention behind the current controversy regarding UBB, and no matter what Bell, Shaw Communications, TELUS or any other of the ‘Big Telecom’ may tell us or like us to believe, this must not be allowed to happen under any guise. As Canadians, and more so as consumers, we have to draw the line somewhere.

Enough is ENOUGH!

I Am Canadian...

"When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us".  ~ Alexander Graham Bell
For those of us that are, or consider ourselves truly Canadian, I'm sure it's a question we ponder time and time again at some point in our lives. Just what are these values we have held so dear for so many years and why is it we now find them to be eroding away?
At the young age of 47, and as a recently separated father of two, I have much to be 'pissed' about! The feeling of having lost my place in this great country of ours has been years in the making. However, in this day and age I feel as if I am not alone. What brings us to this point is not always clear, yet I sense that more and more Canadian’s like myself are finding much to be 'pissed' about. One only has to pick up the local newspaper, watch or listen to the local TV and radio stations to know what it feels like to be 'pissed'. A great many of us feel it at election time, showing it by refusing to vote. (Not good if we want or expect change!) A lot of us feel it on the job as much of our pay is quickly swallowed up in taxes or worse yet, we are replaced by lower wage earners as companies try to compete and survive n a global market. We feel it at the pumps... at the grocers... in the malls and in the schools. No matter where we may look we can always find something to be 'pissed' about.

What's got me so 'pissed'? Well, currently there are a number of reasons, but first and foremost is something that started a few years back. What took me years in the making was more or less stolen from me if for nothing more than greed. A couple of years back I had worked hard in my free time to develop an informational website pertaining to Canada. After taking a few years to develop and complete this site fully, this non-profit site was to give people a better understanding of Canada. Filled with historical information on the land and its people, it was my intention to share this site with those who may never have the chance to experience the kind of life we as Canadians take for granted. It was also to be a starting point for those new to Canada, visiting or otherwise, to find the information needed to make the best of their time here. The site itself contained some 450 pages of Canadian content, with well over 5000+ external links to other great Canadian content.

Originally hosted in the US, it was my intention to move the site to a local hosting company within Canada. I searched for a new domain name, Trulycanadian.ca, and found that it was available. I then contacted a few local web hosting service providers inquiring about their webhosting packages and the cost associated with such plans. Having had a conversation with someone from Webnames.ca located in British Columbia to which I voluntarily gave statistical information about the site, I hoped that I had now found a new home for my website. Awaiting feedback from a few other providers I had contacted, I told the gentleman at Webnames.ca that I would contact him within a few days with regards to the hosting package and the registration of my intended domain. Two days later when I had went to register the Trulycanadian.ca domain; I found that it had been purchased by Webnames.ca, intent on resale. Yeah… I was ‘pissed’ to say the least! I quickly researched on the CIRA website on how to dispute domain names in question, and found that it could become quite costly, leaving me little choice but to wait and hope that Webnames.ca may relinquish their hold on my intended domain. Well, it’s been a number of years since, and the domain Trulycanadian.ca is still undeveloped awaiting resale.

So ‘pissed’ is a way of saying it mildly… My intentions for this new site are not quite clear just as yet; however it will give me the opportunity to once again continue my work. My old website, “Yzowl’s Truly Canadian Links and Information” will find a home while I continue work to refine and develop it further. With regards to the ‘Truly Pissed Canadian’ website, my hopes are to be able to share here what really “pisses” us off! As the blog develops further, I hope to be able to bring you live comments and stories from other Canadians and speak more with you about what makes Canadians ‘pissed’! Perhaps one voice can make a difference…
